Few more new records
New records keep coming for the site at R&R's in Colwyn Bay with several more added in the last couple of days including feathered gothic (a male) which is a moth I'd not seen before and is the first record for the north west corner of Denbighshire with most seen on the eastern side of VC50. Also centre-barred sallow and a chevron were other new records.

Recent Moths, Mynydd Bodafon, Anglesey
There are still plenty of moths around up on the mountain. Amongst all the underwings and rustics, I have caught my first Feathered Gothic and Buff Footman recently. Last night amongst about 250 moths were two local scarcities, both of which I have one previous record, Crescent and Haworth's Minor. Both have a preference for wet boggy areas, which are abundant around here! Also three Canary-shouldered Thorn last night.

Small square spot was new for the year last night while also had second generation pebble prominent.

Another interesting beetle seen around the moth trap at R&R's in Colwyn Bay was this burying beetle (or Sexton beetle). It is believed they can smell a rotting corpse from upto a mile away!

Standing in for Marc
My friend Marc Hughes kindly let us use his Moth trap whilst he is enjoying his well earned holidays. Sadly it has rained heavily every night since we've had it, but last night I took a risk and set it up. This morning there were 27 lovely moths for us to look at.
I'm still trying to ID most of them but my favourites so far are....
A Swallow Tailed Moth
A Yellow Tail (Euproctis similis)
This one I found hard to ID so any help would be great.
The closest I can find is the Lunar Underwing.
If it stays clear the trap will be set again tonight.
Jonathen & Nicolette (Penrhyn Bay)
*****Update (Thank you Ben), the above moth is a Gothic. :-)

Skipping a Beat
I found a small colony of Small Skipper on the Trwyn at Cemlyn this morning, two or three present. As far as I know this is a new species record for Cemlyn, though there are a few records from the north of Anglesey. A new Anglesey tick for me though.
New county record
Largish (for a micro!) moth in trap this morning has been identified as euzophera pinguis and is a new record for VC49 according to the North Wales lep database.
