Also got a Dragonfly tick today - a Downy Emerald while I was walking along the River Severn near Welshpool. Beautiful Demoiselle and Emperor seen too.

ReplyDeleteThat is a very late sighting of Downy Emerald even allowing for the lousy wet weather delaying things somewhat. Did you get a photo of it, no matter how poor? Did you know that it has not been seen in Montgomery before so it would be a new county record?

ReplyDeleteThanks for the message. I'm no expert so maybe I was mistaken. Unfortunately I had no camera at the time. All I went on is that it was a metalic 'green' dragonfly of a reasonable size. When I checked the literature when I got home, the only two other green dragonflies (Brilliant and Northern Emerald weren't found anywhere near Wales). The area I was looking was very good for dragonflies, a series of bends in the river just south of Welshpool on the road to Leighton.
Is there any other species it might have been?
