Oleander Hawkmoth

This is the Mother of all British Hawkmoths. They are pretty much annual in the UK but only in very small numbers, mainly in the south, but they have reached as far north as Scotland. I saw one of these a few years back in Ghana and it's the only one I have seen in the wild. I did buy a few catepillars a few years back from the LBA and reared them on an Oleander bush I got from B+Q! They pupated, hatched and bred again. It was fab for the kids to watch (and me!) and when I finished with them I took them to PiliPalas, even though I was quite tempted to slip one into Nigel Brown's moth trap ;-)
