New county record confirmed

The small golden-rod plume hellinsia osteodactylus has been confirmed by CR and is therefore a first for the county (VC49). Comments about the ermine from the CR were: The Ermine Moth may be Yponomeuta cagnagella, the Spindle Ermine. This has been recorded in your area before and spindle is quite common on the limestone. Spindle Ermine has whiter wings and whiter terminal cilia than the Apple Ermine, but this feature is not absolutely diagnostic. Even genitalia dissection would not determine this species with certainty. MoGBI notes that these Ermines of the Y.padella group may in fact be forms of the same species since there are no clearly diagnostic features excepting their caterpillar foodplants.
